Rates year: this calculator uses the FY2026-27 Australian resident rates (from 1 July 2026). The Medicare levy low-income thresholds for FY2026-27 had not been published when these figures were last reviewed, so the most recent published thresholds are used until the ATO releases them. Figures are updated when the ATO publishes changes.
How does this income tax calculator work?
The calculator applies the Australian resident individual tax brackets for FY2026-27, the financial year starting 1 July 2026, marginally: each rate applies only to the income that falls within its bracket. It then adds the Medicare levy and any compulsory HELP repayment, and shows the estimated tax and take-home pay.
Every figure here is an estimate for general information only, not tax advice, and it excludes offsets, the Medicare levy surcharge and non-resident rates. For your actual position, speak to your accountant or registered tax agent, or check the ATO's published rates for the year.
How the estimate is worked out
Income tax is calculated on the resident marginal rates for the year, so each part of your income is taxed at the rate for its bracket. The Medicare levy is 2% of taxable income, with a reduced rate for lower incomes. The low-income Medicare levy thresholds use the most recently published values while the FY2026-27 figures are confirmed. If you tick the HECS or HELP option, the calculator adds the compulsory repayment on the marginal thresholds, using your taxable income as the repayment income (the tax office uses a slightly broader figure, so your actual repayment can differ). Take-home pay is your taxable income less the total tax. The figures are for Australian tax residents and do not include tax offsets, salary packaging, the Medicare levy surcharge, or other levies.
Estimate only
This calculator gives an estimate for general information only. It is not financial advice, a quote, or an offer of finance. Actual rates, fees and repayments are set by the lender and subject to approval and your circumstances.
